The British Open 2008
SOME of the world’s greatest golfers will be heading for Southport when the town hosts the 137th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in July.
The most prestigious golf tournament in the world returns to the resort for the ninth time between Thursday, July 17, and Sunday, July 20.

According to the golfing digest of the top 100 best courses, Royal Birkdale is positioned at 18th outside of the USA.
Practice days run from July 13-16 followed by the Championship running from July 17-20 at the Waterloo Road club.
Tickets can be bought via the R&A’s website, www.opengolf.com, or in person from Southport Tourist Information Centre, 112 Lord Street, Southport, PR8 1NY.
