Arcade assists charity collection

VOLUNTEERS raised more than £169 for Marie Curie Cancer Care following a street collection in Southport’s Wayfarers Arcade.

Three volunteers collected the cash in aid of the Great Daffodil Appeal, which helps fund the charity’s local home care nursing service across the area.

All the money raised during the collection will be used to help finance 100 one-to-one palliative care nurses covering South Lancashire, Southport and Formby.

Lyn Fenton, community fundraising manager for South Lancashire, Southport and Formby, said: “Marie Curie Cancer Care has been collecting in Wayfarers Arcade for many years now and during that time we have raised vital funds, which are used to help people in the local community.

“All the money raised makes such a difference to people right here in Lancashire and Southport and we are extremely grateful for all the support Wayfarers Arcade and its tenants have shown.”

Marie Curie Cancer has staged annual collections at Wayfarers Arcade on Lord Street for more than nine years.

Yvonne Burns, Wayfarers Arcade manager, added: “Wayfarers Arcade has a long history of supporting charities and giving something back to the local community and we had no hesitation in backing this very worthy cause.”
