Wayfarers Arcade in regional finals
Long the jewel in the crown of Lord Street, Grade II listed Wayfarers Shopping Arcade has been shortlisted as one of only 5 finalists in the Tourism Retailer of the Year category at The Mersey Partnership Annual Tourism Awards 2009.
Nicola Lynch, MD of the family business who own the Wayfarers Arcade said: "It’s really exciting to be shortlisted for this award. Both our whole team and our tenants put a lot of work into presenting the arcade as a unique visitor and shopping venue and it’s fantastic to have that recognised by the official tourist board for the whole Liverpool City Region."
The results will be announced at a high profile celebration dinner at the BT Convention Centre in Liverpool on 18 June.
Nicola added: "Coupled with the arcade’s well-maintained original architectural features, our diverse mix of retailers offer visitors a unique shopping experience that is a wonderful alternative to the high street. With our history dating back to 1898, we are an iconic landmark in Southport and take pride in our contribution to its reputation as a classic resort.
"We have international visitors from all over the world, including America, Japan, New Zealand, and they never fail to be impressed by Wayfarers Arcade. Even visitors from closer to home are quick to acknowledge that it is one of the finest examples of a Victorian shopping arcade in existence, and that’s something for all of us who love Southport to be proud of.
"It’s great to be recognised for our commitment to promoting Southport and the wider city region. We have some tough competition in our category, including The Beatles Story, 08 Place, Lady Lever Art Gallery Shop and the Cavern Walks Shopping Centre, and we’re very proud to have been shortlisted alongside these other renowned shopping experiences. We’ll be there on the 18th June representing Southport and cheering the Arcade on."
